Val 2009 awarded the ISO 14001 certification (environmental management systems)
The fact that the World Championships Organizing Committee has been awarded this certification is a sign of the success of its environmental challenge. Their aim to protect the natural habitat gave rise to the creation of environmental management systems and this constituted a key theme of the candidature phase. The project included pinpointing the detrimental effects of the environmental committee's operations on the environment in order to reduce the impacts to a strict minimum.An independent body, Bureau Veritas, has officially awarded this certification to the World Ski Championships who aim set an example of the vast possibilities open to other organizers of major sporting events. The Organizing Committee is fully aware that their efforts must not cease here and that their work is a long term affair. A number of operations have already been launched and many new operations are planned for the World Championship period. Team members are to be fully trained in environmental matters and emphasis will be placed on passing on this information to all involved in the event not only spectators, but also partners, sponsors and media representatives. The success of this event depends on everyone involved.
