The Organizing Committee
A modern and efficient governing method
The 2009 FIS World Alpine Skiing Championships Organizing Committee was officially created on October 18th 2004 during the Constitutive General Assembly that took place in Val d 'Isère.The founder members chose the legal status of an association according to 1091 law and a modern and efficient governing method with a General Assembly, presided by right by the Mayor of Val d'Isère and a Supervisory Board, also presided by right by the Mayor of Val d'Isère.
This Supervisory Board, comprised of 21 members, appointed a Board of Directors and entrusted the Presidency to Jean-Claude Killy.
This Board of Directors consists of 6 members and constitutes the executive team of the Organizing Committee with Jean Luc Fabre as Managing Director.
The association's set-up means that the event may be co produced by the FIS, the French Skiing Federation, various public bodies and private organizations through four consultative bodies: public institutions represented by the Minister for Youth, Sport and Community Life, the world of sport and the world of economics. It also includes several members who are experts in their fields.
Last but not least, two pre-eminent figures, Michel Barnier and Hervé Gaymard, both Savoyards, who are honorary members of the Organizing Committee.
